Venezuela's Alyz Henrich was Saturday crowned Miss Earth 2013. The runners-up are Miss Austria, who was crowned Miss Air, Miss Thailand won the Miss Water title and Miss Fire went to Miss Korea.

Henrich defeated 88 contestants including Miss India Sobhita Dhulipala, who couldn't even make it to top 16 at the 13th edition of the pageant held at Versailles Palace in Alabang.

This is the second time the title has been given to a beauty from Venezuela. Alexandra Braun had won the pageant in 2005.

Miss Earth 2012 Tereza Fajksová from Czech Republic crowned Henrich. Made of recycled precious metals and more, the crown was designed by environmentalist and jewelry designer Ramona Haar.
Alyz Henrich of Venezuela has been crowned Miss Earth 2013 at the pageant's finale held at Alabang, Muntinlupa City, in the Philippines.

The coronation ceremony took place at the Versailles Palace and was telecast live on Star World.

Henrich succeeds Miss Earth 2012, Tereza Fajksová of the Czech Republic, to become the 13th Miss Earth. She was crowned winner among 88 beauties who vied for the coveted title. The 22-year-old beauty queen is the second contestant from Venezuela to win the crown.

Katia Wagner of Austria is Miss Air, Punika Kulsoontornrut of Thailand is Miss Water and Catharina Choi of Korea has been crowned Miss Fire.

Alyz Henrich's cause for the pageant is to ensure water preservation.

"Taking care of our water is taking care of ourselves, water is life. Let's keep it clean," the Miss Earth 2013 said.

The Venezuelan beauty has chosen to keep waters of an island clean as her environmental advocacy.

"I will be working for the recollection of trash in the Los Roques Island Chain, supporting the cause directed by a brilliant 12-year-old kid, who began to work to keep the waters of these islands clean."

The Miss Earth pageant was established in 2001 to uphold the advocacy to preserve and restore the environment. The title-holder serves as the ambassador for environmental protection campaigns worldwide.

The grand finale night of the Miss Earth pageant saw an enthralling performance by American singer and composer, David Pomeranz.

Miss Earth 2013 rounds off the beauty pageants of the year following the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants. Another beauty queen from Venezuela, María Gabriela Isler, was crowned Miss Universe 2013 whereas Megan Young of the Philippines became the first Filipino to win the Miss World crown.
