Achievements
I have a strong academic skill set of which I am very proud; 8 A grades and 3 B grades for GCSE, 3 A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, and Philosophy with Middle Eastern Religion. From there I continued to University and I am currently studying BA (Hons) in Marketing- I hope to achieve a first. For my year in Industry I was selected to be a Category Marketing Assistant for top manufacturer Sara Lee. Whilst at University I have also had jobs with Yves Saint Laurent and Guerlain this was to widen my business experience whilst learning the value of money. I am very excited about my most recent certification; ‘Chinese Intensive Acquisition Course Completion’ from Yantai University in China. Mandarin is one of the most widely spoken languages and I felt that it would be a personal and professional challenge to learn the language whilst submersed in the culture, so I spent a month in China. As an additional task I volunteered to be an English tutor to Chinese students having problems. Volunteering is close to my heart and something I partake in regularly. The top ‘Millennium Volunteers Award’ was given to me after over 200+ hours of voluntary work at Derriford Hospital helping in the oncology and urology wards. I returned for an extra week to support patients and medical staff in the Primrose Unit of the hospital, which specialises in breast cancer; a ward which is truly amazing in its relationships built between staff and patients and the patients’ inspiring bravery. The University of Plymouth accredited me with a ‘Volunteering in Plymouth- International Project Award’. I feel that volunteering must be treated holistically, it’s symbiotic when you physically meet and interact with the people you are helping- even if they are miles away. I travelled with 14 other people to Romania together we raised the funds to travel via minibus across Europe to be with autistic orphans and improve their lives. We fundraised more than £5000 so that we could make a significant contribution. We created a sensory garden, gave them clean clothes, toys and a donation to help the orphanage. Once over there I also visited a psychiatric hospital to meet the patients and on a one to one basis handed over the collection of clothes and toiletries that we had given to us by the generous people of Plymouth. After Romania I helped fundraise for the next project which was to increase awareness of aids in Tanzania. Sadly I wasn’t able to attend but still raised over £2000 to give to the cause. Locally the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust had a big impact on me; I was naive to the severity of certain disabilities and when I helped serve these extremely happy upbeat yet profoundly disabled people Christmas dinner, which was liquidised, I had to hold back tears. From then on I felt grateful for just being a healthy young lady. A number of smaller events I have helped at such as raising for Cancer Research UK through bake sales and singing contests also testing my physical fitness I completed the London to Brighton bike ride for the British Heart Foundation! Whilst studying at University and volunteering I also pursue my modelling career. Being on a catwalk in Tavistock wearing 8 inch heels and a tutu was scary but worth it to raise money to build a ward in the local hospital for the terminally ill. I have also modelled in The West Country Wedding Show. In addition to this I helped final year photography students with their coursework; recently one of the most unusual photos has been published. My photo, modelling underwater in a wedding dress, was used in the promotion of Plymouth College of Art’s unique BA course in Underwater and Surface-Based Imaging and appeared in Western Morning News and The Herald. My modelling started when I was picked for the Face of Plymouth; out of 300+ girls I became one of the finalists and was given a contract with Glenbeigh. This gave me the recognition needed to boost volunteering projects into the media. I am lucky that I have been able to develop myself academically at University whilst improving my modelling career and giving something back via volunteering.
Talents
I have a passion for languages studying French to Advanced 2 Level (B2) at University and Spanish to GCSE level. As previously mentioned I am qualified in beginners Mandarin after studying at Yantai University in China. I am a people person and I believe being able to communicate with people around the world in their language is invaluable. My French is very useful when I go snowboarding; I learnt at the Plymouth Ski Centre and passed my Ski Levels high enough to freestyle on the slopes in Meribel! I have had speech and drama lessons since I was young and performed at the Saltash Festival of Music, Speech, Drama and Dance. I’ve been involved with productions such as Wind in the Willows, Bugsy Malone and The Wizard of Oz during which I have performed solos backed by a 36 piece orchestra. I have also danced at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth. My ability to perform was picked up by the Head of Marketing at Plymouth University who gave me the opportunity to be a presenter for their television station ‘Cam Crew TV’; I progressed from presenter to station manager!
Ambitions
My outlook on life is work hard, play hard then give a little bit back. If I were to become Miss Plymouth I could inspire young women to be the best they can be but also to reflect and be grateful for what they have. I have tried my very best to complete a degree, pursue a modelling career and also find the time to volunteer and there is always more to be done. However I relish this challenge, I am passionate and enthusiastic and will strive to excel in any opportunity put my way via Miss Plymouth and hopefully Miss England. I am eager to travel and experience new cultures enabling me to grow both personally and professionally building memories to last a lifetime and to share with others. Once I graduate I would like to follow my interest in modelling and after develop my career in Marketing for a perfumery company.
