[News] Miss Florida USA 2012 is Karina Brez

A controversy over pictures of her modeling underwear failed to prevent Karina Berez from being crowned Miss Florida USA 2012 on Saturday night.

Some had complained that her posing violated standards set by the pageant (see video at left) but pageant organizers stood beside her.

Karina’s family moved to the United States from the Ukraine when she was about a year old, according to a biography on her official website.

Karina studied at Gemological Institute of America and became a gem appraiser before turning her attention to pageants, the biography states.

Her favorite charity is Horses Healing Hearts USA, an organization that unites horses with children of alcoholics.

Horses are excellent “therapy with children of alcoholics and addicts because their simple presence and energy can break down walls that the child themselves may not be aware are present,” organizers say.
Karina will spend the next year campaigning for her favorite causes, as well as organizations and projects supported by the Miss USA Organization.

The Miss USA 2012 pageant is scheduled for Las Vegas, probably next June.

Miss Florida USA is affiliated with the Miss Universe Organization, which owns the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants.
